All the fun of the Govan Fair

Govan Fair parade1 THEY came, they saw . . . they cheered and clapped and waved their flags.
Thousands of Govanites took to the streets last Friday to enjoy the spectacle of the Govan Fair parade.
And the universal view was that it was one of the best ever.
Barely half an hour after being crowned, Govan Fair Queen Abbie Hunter took to a horse-drawn carriage to lead off the procession.
With Councillor Stephen Dornan and the Sheep’s Heid out in front, closely followed by the Salvation Army band, the giant procession slowly made its way from Fairley Street to Arklet Road.
St Francis Pipe Band from the Gorbals were in fine tune, and the Lintie Stompers linedancers were pretty in their pink hats.
Reed in Partnership were into 70s pop gear and Sharon Breen School of Dance’s youngsters were a riot of colour and energy.
Team GYIP saluted the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and Park Villa Football Development had a packed lorry of young players.
Impact Arts’ Fab Pad team showed off their costume-making skills, and the Starters Packs stars recreated The Wizard of Oz.
There were colourful displays from Southern General Hospital Radio, Cartha Queen’s Park and Unity’s Mardi Gras outfits.
Members of J & C Hamilton School of Dance showed off their nifty moves, while St Saviour Primary School’s footballers showed off the Govan Fair Cup.
Victoria Knight’s dancers put on quite a show on their way round and Clan Gael’s supporters had the spectators chuckling with their “Glam Gael” theme – complete with Village People lookalikes .
Victory Christian Centre had their own young rock band playing rock standards. McLaren Academy of Dance also entertained the crowds with their routines.
The high-flying acrobatics of the ACG Cheerleaders were a sight
to behold. Govan Reminiscence Group members were dressed as figures from the past but St Constantine’s PTA got dolled up as zombies and ghouls.
