THE Govan Fair Associa-tion’s football tournament attracted eight enthusiastic teams and a large, noisy crowd to the Ibrox Sports Complex last week.
And at the end of an evening of hard-fought games, St Saviour’s (right) emerged as champions.
They pipped battling Lorne Street Primary 1-0 in an exciting final that could have gone either way, before the victorious team was presented with the historic trophy by the outgoing Govan Fair Queen, Shannon Jones.
Also taking part in the annual event, which was played on a seven-a-side format, were Ibrox, Copland, St George’s and Lourdes primary schools.
Organiser John McKenzie said: “It is a fair tribute to the teams that took part that the two referees – Freddie Hunter and his son Richard – did not have to book a single player all evening.
“The behaviour was superb, as was the level of skill on display.
“St Saviour’s were worthy
winners, but every player who took part deserves a lot of credit.”
